This diagram shows the relative position and direction of movement of the Sun in the Milky Way galaxy. The image spans about 1500 light years, or about one and a half times the size of the main image. This diagram is the work of Priscilla Frisch of the University of Chicago. Her article, The Galactic Environment of the Sun, was published in the January/February 2000 issue of the American Scientist.
